Friend’s Fiji Style® cards are all skillfully made in our workshop by a dedicated team of people from disadvantaged backgrounds. They are all made using natural materials including recycled paper, sand, masi bark (mulberry) and shells.

More About the FRIEND Card Project
This award-winning project was started in 2004 when 40 deaf youths took part in a FRIEND Governace workshop where they raised the issue of unemployment. Many of the youths were working in the shoe or garment industry and were laid off and lacked education and skills to find suitable employment.
A FRIEND volunteer, who now heads up the income generation projects for FRIEND taught herself the quilling technique online. She then taught the youths and many of them are still earning a living in this way. They have been joined on the card-making team by other talented youths, disabled people and ex-offenders.
The project has now won two awards, the ICT Youth Award, Tunis in 2005 and a Fiji Development Bank New Initiatives Small Business Awards, 2006.

Masi is a special material made from the bark of mulberry trees and used in traditional ceremonies.
 Fiji Islands Masi cards incorporate the craft of painting onto and making pictures from masi and are finished off with shells and other locally sourced details

Sand is one resource that Fiji has in plentiful supply! The sand is coloured and made into lovely Fiji Island designs.

These cards feature colourful but delicate designs inspired by nature and the natural beauty of the Fiji islands.

Sketch

Black and white hand drawn sketches of Fiji images make for unique and sophisticated cards. These are drawn by a very talented paraplegic artist. To find out more about him click here.

Our paper products are made by hand in our workshop from recycled paper and many feature natural flowers or plant details.
As well as the products listed below we are able to make paper products to order or accept commissions, for example for wedding invitations or special occasion photo frames.
